About Jane

SPECIALIST DYSLEXIA ASSESSOR

Jane O’Brien

I enjoy the assessment process, working out exactly what is going on for the individual, and providing strategies and solutions, whether for children at school or adults in the workplace. As a parent of dyslexic children, I also know how frustrating dyslexia can be without the right support in place. As a teacher and ex-SENDCo I also appreciate the high demands on school provision. I like to offer a realistic and holistic supportive service.”

Jane offers full diagnostic assessments for dyslexia for people of all ages. An Assessment usually takes 2.5 - 3 hours and provides a confirmed diagnosis of dyslexia, and also highlights strengths and weaknesses and an individual cognitive profile.

People with dyslexia can be very bright and are often creative, ‘big picture’ thinkers. Having a diagnosis of dyslexia, coupled with recommendations to support learning, can help people succeed and not give up, and start to feel better about themselves. Talking about difficulties, taking ownership of their learning, and specialist dyslexia interventions can all make a huge difference. “I strongly believe that understanding dyslexia can help everyone recognise and develop positive strategies and improve confidence and attainment.”

Assessments are conducted and reports written in accordance with the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC) guidelines for diagnostic assessment and report writing which allows them to be used as evidence to support an application for Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA) if needed. The written report includes detailed recommendations for how families, educational establishments and workplaces can best support the individual.
